DRSA Board of Directors

Dr. Carl Turner
Carl Turner has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Deep River Science Academy for 6 years, and has been Chair of the Board for the past 5 years.
Carl has worked at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited for 30 years in the field of chemistry and corrosion of water-cooled circuits in nuclear power reactors.  He is widely recognized as an expert in the chemical processes leading to the deposition of impurities onto heat transfer surfaces, and has published widely in this field.  He is currently the manager of a research program to develop an on-line diagnostics and analysis system for nuclear power plants. Carl has a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics, and a PhD in Chemical Physics, both from McMaster University.  He is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and a senior scientist at Chalk River Laboratories.

Dr. Alistair Miller
Alistair Miller is one of the co-founders the Deep River Science Academy in 1987 and has been continuously involved with its operation as variously chair and vice-chair of the Board.
His chemical engineering career with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, where he is currently a researcher emeritus, now extends over 47 years including a 20-year period as Manager, Chemical Engineering Branch.  He is a widely recognized expert on the production and processing of heavy water and has published extensively on the use and production of hydrogen as a zero-carbon energy currency.  He currently represents Canada on the Hydrogen Production Project Management Board of the Generation IV International Forum, which is co-ordinating work worldwide on development of next generation nuclear energy.
He has a BSc in Applied Chemistry from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of London (Imperial College).  He is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and was President of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (1996-97).

Ron Desrochers
Ron has served as the Treasurer of the DRSA for the past 16 years. He has been a resident of Deep River for the past 22 years, and is currently a councillor for the Town of Deep River and is employed at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited as a Project Leader. Ron is very active in the Deep River community having served as treasurer for the OLGC knights of Columbus and the Deep River Gymnastic Club. He has also volunteered his financial expertise for many of Deep River’s clubs and associations.

Dr. Colette E. Taylor
Dr. Taylor has been a member of the Board of Directors for the past 6 years. She was also on the Board of Directors for about nine years in the 1990s.
Colette has been with AECL since 1988 and she is currently the Director, Design Engineering at the Chalk River Laboratories.  Her career with AECL began as a researcher studying flow-induced vibration problems in nuclear generating-station components. In 1994, Colette completed a Ph.D. thesis from the University of Toronto in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

John Wills
Member of technical staff at Bell Northern Research Laboratories, Ottawa and Chalk River Laboratories, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. until retirement in 2010. Main professional interest has been the design and development of plasma ion sources for on-line isotope separation, high-current proton linear accelerators and accelerator mass spectrometry. John has also contributed to technical aspects of the Generation IV reactor program at AECL, as well as the development of novel fueling machine and channel closure concepts.  John has supervised several Deep River Science Academy projects at Chalk River Labs. He continues to pursue interest in ion source development in retirement.
Other interests:
Member of the Board, Deep River Science Academy
Assists with junior sailing and racing programs, Deep River Yacht and Tennis Club
